"The main aim of G.L.D School of Dance is to make it a place where children want
to come to learn to dance. I believe all dance needs discipline, but more importantly
I believe all dancing should be fun. This is something I hope every pupil, of any
age, gains from their classes, along with confidence, self-esteem and a sense of
belonging and team spirit." -- Gemma Chalmers - Principal
G.L.D School of Dance was started by chance in September 2005 with 7 pupils at the
back of Malpas Cricket Club. Six years on, and the dancing school has gone from
strength to strength with 9 different dance groups and over 150 pupils.
The timetable now includes street jazz, zumba, ballet and tap, in which the pupils
can gain an ISTD qualification. The school has also been fortunate in gaining a
fantastic male streetdance teacher, who has started teaching Boys Streetdance.
G.L.D School of Dance puts on yearly variety shows at the Dolman Theatre, and donates
all proceeds to charity. So far, the dance school has raised over £6,000 for numerous
charities.
The dance school caters for all ages from 2 years of age to 72 years and ensures
that each class is fun and enjoyable.
